HISTORIA
History

The idea for the restaurant was born in 1986 by my parents Yannis and Voula Peridis. My mother was the chef and my father was Front of the House Manager. I was ten years old when they started, yet the smell of my mother’s moussaka still tickles my nostrils. The recipe remains the same and every bite takes me back to my childhood.

It all started as a small establishment (what today is the bar), known as ‘Snack-Bar Peridis'. Little by little the business grew to what today is known as ‘Golden Olympiade’. The name sprung from the 1996 Summer Olympics, known unofficially as the Centennial Olympics, or Golden Olympics. All Greeks were hoping for Greece to host the games, 100 years after the first Olympic Games were hosted in the Panathenaic stadium in Athens in 1896. Greece didn’t win the Games and my father decided to pay tribute and always remember the Golden Olympiad(e).

Having worked at the restaurant from a very young age and being passionate about gastronomy and wine, I officially took over in 2011, when I also changed its aesthetics.

PHILOSOPHIA
Philosophy

Fine ingredients, consistency of quality and dedication characterises our working ethos. Attention is paid to applying excellent cooking techniques, such as cooking sous vide. Our food is primarily greek mediterranean, and local (unless there is a lack of produce). You can enjoy the delicious greek lamb, the locally caught flat lobster or the amber jack. I also take pride, however, in offering to our guests the unique Wagyu and the excellent Black Angus beef.

The wine list satisfies a personal passion of mine, and has been compiled based on constant research. It offers around 150 bins, and the idea is to offer a bit of everything at a fair price. Amongst them you can enjoy Estate Alpha (Xinomavro), Estate Gaia (Agiorghitiko), Sigalas, Hatzidakis (Assyrtiko Santorini), Gerovassilliou (Malagouzia), and many more. International renowned wine producers such as Pio Cesare, Didier Dagueneau and Domaine Comte De Vogüé are just a few examples of what makes us unique.

Our dedication to food and wine led us to invite Konstantinos Lazarakis, the greek Master of Wine, and hosted, in 2011, an unforgettable event that combined food and wine tasting.

Location

You will find us under the blessed shade of two imperious ficus trees, in the Medieval town of Rhodes. Choose any of the gates to access the old town and wander around. When you feel hungry or just thirsty, come and find us at Efdhimou Square, just off the main Socratous Street, and just a few metres away from the archaeological museum.
